This week's Featured Member: Dan's Auto Care

“Today’s economy is forcing people to keep their cars longer,” says Dan Pflibsen, owner of Dan’s Auto Care at 2600 N. 24th Street. “Most cars will last 150,000-200,000 miles, but owners must take good care of their vehicles to make them last that long.”
Regular maintenance is a must. Oil must be changed every 3,000 miles. The transmission should be flushed every three years or every 36,000 miles. The cooling system needs regular maintenance, and belts and hoses need to be replaced on a regular basis, too. Good brakes and tires are mandatory.
“Even in Quincy, Ill., where you can get across town in 15 minutes, people spend a lot of time in their cars these days. The average driver puts 15,000 to 20,000 miles on their cars each year. We work to make those cars safe, comfortable and dependable,” he continues.
Pflibsen opened his shop in 1993 in a small, three-bay facility in the Historic Quincy Business District. He quickly outgrew that space and by the end of 1994, he had hired two additional mechanics and purchased the current location on North 24th Street.
“Trust is important in the car care industry,” says Dan’s wife and partner, Ann, who performed administrative duties for the company before opening her own business, Simply Sewing, in 2008. “Not only do our mechanics perform great work, but Dan has the ability to explain to customers what needs to be done and why. When they understand, they are more comfortable proceeding with the repairs.”
Thousands of customers trust Dan’s Auto Care. Based on customer testimonials, the company was selected from a pool of 5,000 CARQUEST Tech Net Professional Auto Service Centers as a national finalist for the 2007 CARQUEST Excellence Award. They were nominated again for the award in 2010.
The technicians at Dan’s Auto Care are ASE certified and qualified to repair and service all domestic and imported vehicles using parts that are equal to or exceed the standards of those parts originally used by the manufactures. They regularly are able to schedule vehicles for next day service, allow walk-in customers for oil changes, and offer loaned vehicles to customers when they absolutely cannot be without a car.
“We are definitely the cost-effective alternative to car dealership servicing for all scheduled maintenance of your personal or company auto, pickup or truck,” says Pflibsen. “Regardless of where it was built, we will service your vehicle and still maintain the manufacturer's warranty.”
“And, Dan just loves cars. They are his work but also his hobby,” laughs Ann.
Pflibsen’s favorite car is the Pontiac GTO, a now-classic ‘muscle car’ built from 1964 to 1974. Dan owns three versions—1965, 1966 and 1968. His newest interest is nostalgic, traditional hotrod cars built from the 1930s to 1950s. Of course, Dan’s Auto Care can service these specialty cars in addition to today’s models.
