Although fashion trends have changed since the first dressbarn store opened in 1962, the mission of the company – providing contemporary fashions at great value – has remained the same. Designed with the working woman in mind, dressbarn has a complete range of clothing, from casual to career and special occasion, in sizes 4 to 24 with an emphasis on quality and value.

In March 2007, dressbarn opened a store in the Quincy Mall.

“There was a need for quality women’s clothing at an affordable price in the Quincy market,” explained Teresa Harness, store manager. “The company researched the area for three to five years before deciding to open a store here.”

Harness, a native of the Quincy area, began her dressbarn career in the Kansas City market. Since the opening of the Quincy store, Harness has worked to extend the friendly, customer-focused atmosphere of dressbarn beyond the store walls.

“We bring goodie bags with catalogs and coupons to events like the Chamber Women’s Networking Group luncheons – and even to businesses if it is convenient for their employees. Our VIP events are popular with business women, because they offer undivided attention and additional savings to a group of friends or colleagues,” said Harness. “We are also willing to do special events such as fashion shows, either in the store or at another location.”

Although the focus is often on the clothing and accessories, the culture of the company makes people the top priority. “Our employees are treated well,” said Harness. “We honestly want feedback, both from employees and customers, and we use that feedback to make positive changes. We respect our employees and customers and do business in a way that reflects respect. For example, if customers sign up to receive promotions and special offers via e-mail, they will not be overwhelmed with dressbarn e-mails, and their information will not be sold or shared.”

Community involvement is also a key value for dressbarn, which supports causes such as Dress for Success, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, and Breast Care Awareness Month.

dressbarn is family-run business with more than 800 stores nationwide that is also a public company traded on NASDAQ (DBRN), and also owns the brands maurices and Justice.
