Parents choose Cheerful Home Child Care & Early Learning Center for their children’s education because of the challenging instruction, warmth of the teachers and staff, and because many of them were educated their themselves. Cheerful Home has a long-standing tradition of excellence and caring in education in Quincy. Established in 1886, it is the oldest licensed child care facility in the state of Illinois and 15th oldest in the nation. It was also the first entity to bring a kindergarten program to Quincy, which was started in 1902.
The nonprofit can serve up to 176 children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old, and is open year-round. And when public schools are closed, Cheerful Home is open, with few exceptions.
“Our success is due to our longevity, and much of that has to do with our excellent staff. When you have that longevity, it gives you that reputation of stability. From the staff member who’s been here for 33 years, to the business manager who takes care of the finances and pitches in when an aide is needed, to the outreach coordinator who links our parents with resources in the community…our staff genuinely cares about the children and families we serve,” said Deb Stock, executive director. Located at 315 S. 5th St. since 1935, Cheerful Home boasts of a small student-to-teacher ratio, spacious indoor play areas, a library, three playgrounds; and more. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors and is funded through donations and grants.
Cheerful Home is open from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, visit them online at www.cheerfulhome.org or call 217-228-0654.
