French Gerleman may have its roots in electrical parts and services, but the diversity of products now offered by the company has expanded so much that “electric” is no longer in the company name.
“We bring it all together—products, services, solutions,” says Quincy Branch Manager Peary Rice, who has been with the company for more than 20 years. “We offer smart, safe, sustainable automation solutions that optimize production in any type of manufacturing environment. We help large and small companies design and implement the right solution for their data, voice and video communication. We are launching a new safety division, working on clean energy initiatives, expanding our footprint in the mechanical power transmission segment…and we continue to be one of the largest electrical distributors in the region.”
With its corporate headquarters in suburban St. Louis, this year French Gerleman is celebrating its 25th anniversary in Quincy and its 90th anniversary as a company. Ranked the 67th largest distributor in North America by Electrical Wholesaling magazine (June 2012), the fifth-generation family-owned company serves the industrial, commercial and construction markets from branches in Quincy, Kansas City, Columbia, MO, and Washington, MO.
Formerly located at 920 Vermont in Quincy for 20 years, the local branch moved into a new 17,000-square-foot facility at 1700 N. 45th Street in 2008.
“Our new warehouse allows us to handle a larger inventory, provides more space to stage and kit customer orders and gives us room to grow,” says Rice. “We also have a dedicated Counter Sales Center that allows customers to quickly order and pick up supplies they need to complete their projects that day. And, we have next-day access to our $20 million corporate inventory, so customers can place orders until closing time one day and we can deliver them the next day.”
The new facility also includes a dedicated space for training. French Gerleman and industry experts educate customers on the latest ideas in operations efficiency, energy conservation, technology and a variety of other topics. This spring, French Gerleman will host a safety seminar that will highlight products to make companies OSHA compliant.
French Gerleman provides a 24-hour emergency service. Customers’ after-hours calls are returned within 15 minutes to provide technical support or inventory access.
