Downtown business wins $10,000 through Business Plan Grant Program

Elite Studio, located above Washington Theatre in downtown Quincy, will receive $10,000 through the Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business Plan Grant Program. A committee of local professionals chose Elite Studio’s business plan out of eight plans that were submitted this year.

“The committee was impressed with this (Elite Studio’s) plan’s viability and innovation. They feel that this business will add jobs to the local economy,” said Melanie Allen, chairman of the Chamber Board of Directors.

Elite Studio offers dance and fitness classes. Holly Schell, owner of Elite Studio, plans to use the grant money for renovations to Washington Theatre, marketing, and to install a light board with a special sound system in one of the studios so that dancers who are deaf or hard of hearing will be able to see the beat of the music. Schell also plans to hire more instructors.

The Chamber initiated this program in 2012, in recognition of its 125th anniversary, to foster new business initiatives as well as business expansions in Adams County. Past winners have included Quincy Area Bridal Magazine, Paws at Home, a mobile veterinary clinic; WoodStove-FireplaceGlass.com, an online supplier of fireplace glass and wood stove replacement glasses; and Golden Bridges, a service-oriented company that coordinates various aspects of moving for seniors.
