International Eyecare Center - September 2nd, 2010

A large crowd, ready for networking and refreshments, showed up at last week's Business After Hours, hosted by International Eyecare Center. Thank you to Teresa Carter, Linda Reed, and the entire IEC staff for their wonderful hospitality!
 
Keith Shaffer from Stoney Creek Inn was the lucky winner of a pair of Oakley sunglasses and David Hetzler, Jr. from Gardner Denver won an IEC gift certificate. Additional door prizes were won by J.T. Dozier from Dozier Insurance Agency, Melinda Ruff from Allied Waste, Marilyn Heinie from Heinie Specialty Products, Lois Campbell from the American Business Women's Association, Sandy Frillman from Century 21 Broughton Team, and Gilberta Dorsey from Abundant Life Investments. Representatives from Sam's Club, the New Tremont Apartments, and Illinois Signal Communications missed the opportunity to take home $75 in cash from the Chamber. Frese Ornamental Nursery & Landscaping - August 12th, 2010

More than 80 people attended the August Business After Hours at Frese Ornamental Nursery, 3100 N. 18th. Our thanks to Ted Genenbacher, Katie Ippensen and staff for the delicious food and wonderful atmosphere.

Frese Ornamental Nursery was started in 1853 as an orchard in Coatsburg, Ill. Today, the company, now run by the fourth, fifth and sixth generation of the family, offers wholesale products to other nurseries, a retail garden center, and landscaping design and services. Their mission is to provide “quality work, quality plants and quality people.” Call Frese Nursery at 222-0977 for more information about their services.

Judy Dewey from F&M Bank and Trust Services, Judy Hays from Denman Services, Todd Waterkotte from Advance Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine and Pat Darnell from Darnell Home Improvements were the winners of gift certificates from Frese Nursery.

No representatives from Thyme Out Tea Parties, PEPPCO or Heintz Electric Company were on hand to collect the Chamber’s $50 prize, so we will try to give away $75 at the Sept. 2 Business After Hours at International Eyecare Center. We hope to see you there.


Rokusek Design - July 8th, 2010

Rokusek Design rolled out the red carpet and gave attendees VIP treatment during last week's Business After Hours. In addition to great networking opportunities, attendees enjoyed several types of refreshments and left with a commemorative Rokusek glass. There was no winner for the Chamber's $25 giveaway, as representatives from Lawn Solutions Inc., Wither's Broadcasting, and Members First Community Credit Union were not present to claim the prize. However, Rokusek Design gave away four gift baskets and KC Freeman, Marilyn Heinie from Heinie Specialty Products, Craig Freeman from Simmetry, and Paul Brown from Friends of the Castle were lucky enough to have their names drawn.

Cape Air/Quincy Regional Airport - June 10th, 2010

More than 75 attendees at the June Business After Hours saw a Cape Air aircraft land and then received an up-close view of the plane before it departed Quincy Regional Airport. Cape Air operates a fleet of over 50 Cessna 402's like the one shown above, with up to 850 flights per day during high season. Last year Cape Air carried over 650,000 passengers, making them the largest independent regional airline in the United States.

John Rodgers, regional marketing manager for Cape Air, reminded attendees of Cape Air's code share with American Airlines and their free baggage offer before awarding two free round trip tickets each to John Rokusek of Rokusek Design and Debbie Niederhauser, interim Regional Superintendent of Schools. Our thanks to John and to Marty Stegeman, airport director, for the great food and fun.

Bill Martin, co-owner of Greentek, was the lucky winner of the Chamber's cash giveaway. Bill was thefirst winner of the year and took home $150. Next month, the pot returns to $25. You must be present to win. The July Business After Hours will take place on July 8 at Rokusek Design. We hope to see you there.


Spirit Knob Winery - May 13th, 2010

Spirit Knob Winery hosted a large crowd of Chamber members and guests during the May Business After Hours. Attendees enjoyed sampling Spirit Knob's award-winning wines and delicious snacks as they networked. Thank you to Matt and Karen Schulte for their generous hospitality!

Tanner Freiburg of Freiburg Insurance and Rodney Heimer of Heimer & Associates were the lucky winners of Spirit Knob Winery gift certificates. The Chamber attempted to give away $125 in cash, but representatives from Great River Community Credit Union, Summy Tire, and Starcrest Cleaners missed the opportunity. The money will roll over and $150 will be up for grabs during the next Business After Hours, hosted by Quincy Regional Airport and Cape Air on June 10. See you there!


Villa Kathrine - April 8th, 2010

It was a beautiful afternoon to visit the Villa Kathrine, the location of the April Business After Hours hosted by Friends of the Castle and Elsenpeter Productions. Attendees had the opportunity to tour the Villa as well as enjoy performances by a variety of entertainers, including an appearance by Mark Twain. Villa Kathrine door prizes were won by Mike Predmore from Predmore Shuttle, Dean LaVelle from Webcentric, Suzanne Ellerbrock from Blessing Health System, Linda Flesner from F&M Bank and Trust, Ray Sertuche, and Judy Milfs. Representatives from Inghram & Inghram, Quincy Public Library, and Hardee's East missed the Chamber's drawing for $100 cash. Salon Jana & Day Spa - March 11th, 2010

A large crowd gathered for an evening of networking, pampering, and delicious refreshments at Salon Jana and Day Spa. Thank you to Jana Sheely and her colleagues for hosting an outstanding event. Gift certificates for massages, haircuts, and more were won by Chad Argabright from Argabright Electric, Joy Berhorst from Domestics, Etc., Ray Scheiter from the Regional Office of Education, and Jane Ulm from Signs in Time. The Chamber attempted to give away $75 in cash, but representatives from Bel-Aire Motel, the Oakley Lindsay Center, and Quincy Plumbing & Heating missed the opportunity. Land of Lincoln Countertops, Cabinetry and Flooring Center - February 11th, 2010

The temperature outside was cold, but four lucky attendees of the Feb. Business After Hours won hot prizes from Land of Lincoln Countertop, Cabinetry and Flooring Center. Kent McGinnis from McGinnis Insurance Agency, Chad Argabright from Argabright Electric Co., Amie Smith from ServPro of Quincy, and Danelle Donley from the March of Dimes all took home gorgeous granite hot plates. Thank you to Josh and Erin Cook and their entire staff for the delicious refreshments and outstanding hospitality.

The Chamber attempted to give away $50 in cash, but representatives from Burger King, Bee-Line Express, and Transitions of Western Illinois were not in attendance to claim the money. Join us next month for a chance to win $75 in cash during Business After Hours on March 11 at Salon Jana.


Doors-N-More - January 14th, 2010

Doors-N-More had the honor of hosting the first Business After Hours event of 2010. Craig Hemming and his staff set the bar high with their outstanding hospitality. Attendees enjoyed networking with a large crowd and looking through the inspiring showroom featuring doors, windows, sunrooms, and more. The Chamber attempted to give away $25 in cash, but representatives from Hopewell Clinical, WDM Computer Services, and Gayla Gastler, Independent Marketing Director were not in attendance to claim the prize. $50 will be up for grabs at the next Business After Hours, Feb. 11 at Land of Lincoln Countertops, Cabinetry and Flooring. Dame, Hurdle & Company - December 10th, 2009

Dame, Hurdle & Company was an excellent location for the Chamber's Business After Hours in December. Thanks to Vince and Hope Udry and their staff for their wonderful hospitality - and the inspiration for Christmas gift ideas! Several attendees left with door prizes, ranging from beautiful centerpieces to a Dame, Hurdle & Company gift card. After drawing nearly 20 businesses out of the box, the Chamber's cash prize of $75 was ultimately awarded to Bee-Line Express. Kathy Mutchler and Kathy O'Hara are lucky ladies, as Bee-Line Express won the final cash prize at the final Business Before Hours of 2009 on Dec. 3. Thank you to all the hosts and attendees for making each and every Business After Hours in 2009 a success! We will see you in January at Doors-N-More.


Adam Florist - November 12th, 2009

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas - at least for the attendees of the November Business After Hours, which was hosted by Adam Florist. Holiday decor, florals, gifts, antiques, and delicious refreshments provided the perfect setting for networking. Several attendees won door prizes including flower bundles, coffee mugs, and gift certificates. Larry Stoll, representing Sharkey Transportation, won Adam Florist's major prize - a $100 gift certificate. Thank you to Greg Lueckenhoff and his staff for their generous hospitality!

The Chamber attempted to give away $50 in cash, but representatives from Schwan Food Co., Cason, Huff & Schlueter, and Members First Community Credit Union missed the opportunity. That cash will roll over to the December Business After Hours, where $75 in cash will be given away. See you there!


Quincy Business and Technology Center - October 8th, 2009

Current and past honorees of the "20 Under 40" recognition were introduced at the October Business After Hours at the Quincy Business and Technology Center. Here, Jana Hattey from Mercantile Bank, Jeff Westcott from Hometown Insurance, Nikki Hoyt from Advanced Fitness, Shawn Dickerman from WGEM and Frank Cann from Media Development are recognized. Others past winners in attendance included Chris Kelly from Table 16 Productions, Bill Siebers from Scholz, Loos, Palmer, Siebers & Duesterhaus and Eric Thomas, owner of ETC ComputerLand.

Our thanks to Les Mackenzie, QBTC Director, and four other Chamber member businesses housed in the QBTC who served as hosts: Heinie Specialty Products, Illinois Procurement and Technical Assistance Center, Media Development, and Tri-State Healthcare Coalition. Attendees received tours of the building and, of course, great refreshments and networking.

Prize winners included: Barb Oitker, Dwight Reynolds, Peggy Junk, Cheryl Liggett, Henry Pratt, Kathy Mutchler, Kathy O'Hara, Dean LaVelle, Jana Hattey. No one from Schlipman Construction, Goodwin Tours or Hometown Signs and Awards were on hand to claim the Chamber's $25 cash prize, so that rolls over and we will attempt to give away $50 cash at the Nov. 12 Business After Hours at Adam Florist. Cass Advertising - September 3rd, 2009

Cass Advertising representatives Laymon Carter and Jack Cassady introduced Chamber members to a new option in television advertising at the Sept. Business After Hours. After learning about Cass Advertising's state-of-the-art commercial production, John Mast of Computer Works won an advertising package valued at more than $2,000. In addition, Adams County Health Department employees shared a $25 prize, courtesy of the Chamber's cash giveaway. Tower Storage Inc. and Modern Printing staff members missed out on the opportunity to claim the cash prize.

Savemore's Carpet & Rug Gallery - August 17th, 2009

Attendees at the Aug. Business After Hours, hosted by Savemore's Carpet and Rug Gallery, had the opportunity to try out several different types of flooring as they networked and walked from wood to carpet to tile in the showroom. Teri Keene from Keene Spaces and Norma Predmore from Predmore Shuttle Service each won a Savemore gift certificate and Linda Flesner from F & M Bank and Trust Co. won a carpet cleaning kit. Representatives from Strother Automotive missed out on the opportunity to win $100 in cash from the Chamber, but Mecki Kosin, representing the Great River Referral Group, was present and claimed the $100 prize.

Jam packed!

Kevin Reed, owner of Reed Promotional Media, and his staff put their office expansion plans into high gear to be ready for last week's Business After Hours. It was a good thing, too, as nearly 100 people packed their offices at 2443 Broadway. RPM assists businesses with all forms of advertising, from video to printed pieces to billboards and more.

Multiple prizes, including a $500 advertising package won by Jana Sheely from Salon Jana, were given away. Winners included Emily Rischar from KHQA-TV, Phil Alexander from the Oldies Superstation 106.7, Tamra Cowen from Sunset Home, Villas and Apartments, Pat Darnell from Darnell Home Improvement, Kathy Wolters from With You In Mind, Suzanne Ellerbrock from Quincy Health Care Management, Sheila Behrens from Anderson Financial Group, Danelle Donley from March of Dimes and Tom Kelling from the QuincyHerald Whig.

No one from Dale Koontz Builder, Poepping Stone Bach and Associates or Outdoor Power were on hand to win the Chamber's $75 cash prize, so that rolls over and we'll try to give away $100 at our next Business After Hours at Land of Lincoln Cabinetry, Countertop and Flooring Center, 2221 N. 24th Street,  on Aug. 13. Stoney Creek Inn - June 11th, 2009

Once again, we had a full house at the June Business After Hours at Stoney Creek Inn. Thank you to Dax Fohey, Elizabeth Winfield, Keith Shaffer and staff for a wonderful evening. Our hosts invited four caterers to provide food for this event and each provided several tasty offerings--thank you to County Market CateringHy-Vee on Broadway, Kelly's and Delightfully Tasteful Catering. 

Stoney Creek Inn gave away two one-night stays at the hotel, which were won by Becky Albert and Eric Evers, both from F&M Bank and Trust Co.  Carl Kruthoff from KHQA-TV won Stoney Creek's stuffed animal. Jessica Winter from Salon Jana, a new Chamber member, also won a $200 advertising package from the Oldies Superstation. No one from JK Creative Printers and Mailing, CareNet Pregnancy Services or America's Best Value Inn were in attendance, so the Chamber's $50 cash prize rolls over to next month.

Buffalo Wild Wings - May 14th, 2009

More than 100 Chamber members and guests packed the bar area of Buffalo Wild Wings, anxious to sample the delicious wings and refreshments while networking. Our thanks to Rick Putnam, Scott Neer, and the entire Buffalo Wild Wings staff for their generous hospitality.

The Chamber attempted to give away $25 in cash, but representatives from Poage Auto Plaza, Niemann Foods, and Tower Storage Inc. missed out on the opportunity. We will attempt to give away $50 at the next Business After Hours, which will be held June 11th at Stoney Creek Inn.

A crowd of nearly 100 Chamber members and guests enjoyed a delicious sampling  of barbecue, deli meat, and cheese at the April Business After Hours hosted by The Butcher Block. Thank you to owner Dan Veihl and staff for the fun atmosphere and great food.

A Butcher Block gift certificate was won by Sandy Frillman from Century 21 Broughton Team, and Judy Hays from Blessing Health System won the Chamber’s $75 cash prize.


Advocacy Network for Children - March 12th, 2009

The Chamber attempted to give away $50 in cash, but representatives from Elder's Family Restaurant, St. Rose of Lima Church, and Thyme-out Tea Parties were not present to claim the prize. The money will roll over, making $75 available at the next Business After Hours, which will be held April 9 at the Butcher Block.

The Quincy Park District has us thinking spring and golf thanks to their wonderful Business After Hours event at Westview Golf Course. Because the Chamber's $25 cash prize was not claimed, it will roll over to create a $50 drawing at the next Business After Hours, which will be held March 12, 2009 at the Advocacy Network for Children.


First Bankers Trust Co. Corporate Operations Center - January 8th, 2009

More than 200 guests packed the new Corporate Operations Center of First Bankers Trust Company for the Jan. 8 Business After Hours. In 2008, the Bank bought the property at 505 N. 24th, formerly the headquarters of Penn Daniels, a funeral home and a restaurant among others, to relocate all its "beind-the-scenes" personnel. First Bankers gutted the facility and renovated all three floors. Our thanks to President Art Greenbank, Marketing Director Maria Eckert and the entire staff for a wonderful kick-off to our 2009 Business After Hours program.

First Bankers Trust Company prizes were won by Paul Brown, Mike Fleetwood and Charlie Lugo. Liberty Tax Service, a new Chamber member, gave away two free tax preparations, which were won by Bill Stalder and Myra Kuhn, and Laura Hyde from the University of Illinois Extension was on hand to accept the Chamber's $25 cash prize.
