Meet U.S. Cellular
In the wireless industry, faster is better - and U.S. Cellular is the only wireless provider currently offering 3G service in Quincy, which provides a high speed connection for web browsing, data and application downloads, and streaming media. The company has offered 3G service in Quincy for more than a year, increasing the popularity of the latest Android-powered phones, BlackBerrys, and Windows Mobile phones, which allow U.S. Cellular customers to stay connected, productive, and organized when they’re on the go.
“Change is constant in our business,” said Joyce Waterkotte, district manager. “There was a time when our customers were amazed by the ability to send a text message. Now, with cutting edge smartphones like U.S. Cellular’s Samsung Mesmerize and LG Optimus U, we’re able to do so much more, like browse the web, check e-mail and stream video - all while on the go.”
Although the wireless industry has changed tremendously since the company was founded in 1983, U.S. Cellular’s mission of providing excellent customer service has remained unchanged.
In November, Consumer Reports created their first-ever “Naughty and Nice” list, which listed U.S. Cellular among the 10 “Nice” companies that consumers should consider for their holiday shopping. Consumer Reports selected companies with good customer service and shopping policies that make people’s lives easier.
“We take pride in truly treating our customers the way we want to be treated – and we’re always striving to provide our customers with the best possible shopping experience.”
The recently introduced Belief Project is one example of how U.S. Cellular has turned customer feedback into reality. Over the years, wireless customers expressed dissatisfaction with issues such as the process of signing contracts, waiting two years to upgrade phones, and big bills resulting from overages. The Belief Project addresses these frustrations by eliminating the need for additional contracts beyond the initial agreement, offering an overage cap and earlier phone upgrades, and implementing a Belief Points system to reward customer loyalty.
“In addition to providing great service to our customers, U.S. Cellular also believes in serving our communities,” said Waterkotte. “Every year, our associates establish a goal for service hours – this year, we committed to more than 30,000 hours of service nation-wide. We also have our Calling All Teachers and Calling All Communities campaigns. Both campaigns award $1 million annually to classroom projects and schools.”
U.S. Cellular associates are also involved volunteers, taking active roles in community betterment projects and service organizations. Waterkotte and the U.S. Cellular associates in Quincy are active in Rotary, Chamber Ambassadors, YP, and serve on committees for organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association and the YMCA. The company also offers an Associates Matching Gift program, which provides 100% matching funds for charitable donations made by employees, up to $2,500 annually.
“At U.S. Cellular, our goal is to make a difference in the communities where we live in work, whether it’s providing residents with unmatched call quality on our award-winning high speed network, or giving back through volunteering and charitable giving,” said Waterkotte. “You won’t find another wireless provider who cares for their customers and their community more than we do at U.S. Cellular.”
