John and Kia Hamann, owners of PyroGraphics, use art and experience to make marketing campaigns “pop” for their clients.
John has been working in the print and advertising business for more than 15 years. He earned his BFA degree in art from Culver-Stockton College in 1996 and spent 11 years as a graphic designer, art director and web developer before founding PyroGraphics with Kia in 2008.
Kia graduated with a BFA in commercial art/graphic design from University of Central Missouri, the only publicly funded institution in the state to earn the National School of Arts and Design accreditation. She worked as a designer and photographer prior to starting PyroGraphics.
“We are artists,” says John. “We use many artistic principles in our work but feel that great design is transparent. It is all about communicating a company’s brand and message. Everything is centered on the company’s identity. If they do not have a solid brand, we will work with them to create one. Consistency is very important.”
PyroGraphics services include web development, graphic design, advertising production and photography for all businesses, large and small.
The Hamanns say that there are several important elements to remember when developing a new website.
“Everything is going mobile these days, and your website needs to be able to work in that environment,” says John. “Even if you built a new website just a few years ago, you may want a redesign to make sure your site is accessible by cell phones and tablets.” While the desktop still accounts for the vast majority of web browsing, John expects mobile usage to increase dramatically.
“The more you can update your site, the better it will perform on search engines, and the more appealing and useful it will be to your customers,” he continues. “Everyone wants to perform updates in-house and we accommodate that need without special software. However, business owners must commit to this activity. Get training and update the site daily or at least weekly so you don’t forget how it’s done.”
“Customers also need to be able to find your valued information quickly and easily,” says Kia. “Your web design cannot be too complicated or visitors will give up. And of course, we believe you need to reinforce your brand in everything!”
PyroGraphics’ cloud-based hosting enables their clients’ sites to utilize the latest web technologies and expand as their needs grow. “We prefer to host the sites we create so we have more control over site capabilities, backup and security,” says John.
Like their marketing campaigns, PyroGraphics’ company name is unique and memorable. John is a licensed and highly experienced pyrotechnic display (fireworks) operator; he is the Pyro in PyroGraphics.
