All good ways to describe media development, the area’s oldest full service advertising company. In business now 28 ½ years, media development has worked with Fortune 500 companies to family owned retailers providing graphic design, video production, media services and web site work.
“We work in a very strategic manner,” says Owner Susan Pierson. “Before we produce a TV spot or design a brochure, we ask a lot of questions. What is your goal? Who is your audience? What do you want your audience to feel, think, know and understand? What is your expectation of the work? The business climate, customers, competitors….these factors are constantly changing, so the answers to these questions will change.”
Pierson believes you can be a small company and have a BIG look and media development works to ensure a higher production standard in every project.
“We encourage clients to adhere to a standards manual when it comes to their print work, and keep their presentation consistent every time,” she says. “Attention to detail makes a huge difference.”
By not looking at their role as merely a vendor, media development feels a sense of responsibility to clients.
“We’re in this together and we’re competitive. We want clients to be successful,” she continues. “We’re careful about media planning. And we’re not afraid to urge them to look at factors beyond advertising. Are their hours convenient? Is their customer service as good as it can be? Are their prices competitive? What sets them apart?”
media development has been honored with numerous national awards for their work…more than 13 Telly Awards, twice nominated for an Emmy, six Communicator Awards, and a Gold Healthcare Marketing Award for Web Design.
“Creative products that cause the audience to react to the clients message is what really counts,” says Pierson. “And everyone likes to offer an opinion about advertising…how it looks and where it goes. But when you get nationally recognized by peers for your work, that’s a nice validation in a very subjective field.”
So, who does what? Susan Pierson writes, produces and provides account management. Frank Cann handles all video and audio production. Tim McClelland oversees graphic and web design and is also an excellent illustrator. Danette Koyer is the Office Manager, handling billing and administrative tasks and making sure there are Tootsie Roll Pops in the jar!
