Meet Manpower
The staff at Manpower has been “swamped” since May and that’s good news for the Quincy area economy.
“We saw small increases in companies hiring beginning in November and by February, it really started to take off,” says Erica Anders, Manpower Branch Manager. “As the experts predicted for the middle of 2010, companies are hiring again, and that’s good news.”
Established in 1948 in Milwaukee, WI, Manpower has been in Quincy since 1971, having purchased the former Ruth’s Staffing Solutions. Currently located at 2638 Broadway, Suite 200, the company offers employers permanent, temporary and contract recruitment; employee assessment and selection; training; outplacement; outsourcing and consulting. Manpower’s worldwide network of nearly 4,000 offices in 82 countries and territories enables the company to meet the needs of its 400,000 clients per year, including small and medium size enterprises in all industry sectors, as well as the world's largest multinational corporations.
“The hiring process, when done correctly, takes time and persistence and it can be stressful,” says Anders. “And, if a correct match isn’t found, a company has to start all over again.
“We take that burden away from the employer,” she continues. “We advertise the position, sort through the résumés, test, interview and reference-check the prospective employees. Because we are part of a nationwide organization, the pool from which we search for candidates extends far beyond the tri-state area. We actually have many people in our pool of applicants who wish to return home to Quincy and are looking for positions here.”
Many Manpower clients hire workers on temporary-to-permanent basis to make sure that they are a good fit for the company before entering into a permanent employment agreement.
“Our services are perfect for those companies without a human resources department, and we can help larger companies save money and reduce headaches,” says Anders.
Currently, Manpower lists a nice mix of industrial and office positions, including medical billing, accounting and administrative openings. Job hunters can apply online and access this list by visiting www.manpowerjobs.com.
Anders estimates that Manpower receives nearly 100 applications for each opening.
“We will spend three or four hours with each prospective employee, testing their math skills, computer skills, ability to follow verbal and written directions, finger dexterity, attention to detail and other skills. We get to know them so we have a better idea whether or not they will fit into our client’s workplace,” says Anders.
