Meet Faith Christian Church
After spending 14 years as a youth pastor, most recently at a large church in the Washington, D.C. area, Matt Worstell thought his service as a pastor would come to an end when he moved back to the Midwest with his wife and children to be closer to family. However, a change in career wasn’t in God’s plan for Worstell.
When Worstell began his service as Pastor at Faith Christian Church in 2009, he was not surprised by the challenges he faced, such as an aging congregation and the need for an increase in not only name recognition, but awareness of Faith’s location on 12th Street, in the northwest part of Quincy.
“Although we have already experienced positive growth in the congregation, we still have to work hard to attract younger families,” said Worstell. “We’re trying to let the community know we’re here by hosting fun, seasonal outreach activities like trunk-or-treat and Easter egg hunts, which are open to the public.”
In addition to fun activities, Faith Christian Church also has a children’s ministry program, providing age-appropriate teaching and activities in children’s church for students through grade 6, as well as junior high and high school programs. Worstell is also working to increase opportunities for adults through small group studies - although he is careful not to add too much too quickly.
“My philosophy is to do one thing at a time and do it the best. We needed to fine tune our Sunday service, to make it have one single point of focus. Sunday services should energize people for the week - and that CAN be accomplished in an hour,” said Worstell.
Setting the expectation of a one hour Sunday service is just one of the ways Worstell is working to meet the needs of current - and potential - members of the congregation.
“We want people to know we are here. We are an active congregation, and we encourage them to give Faith Christian Church a try,” said Worstell.
